Town Day 2013 will be held on Saturday, September 21st from 10am to 3pm in Arlington Center. Walking In Arlington will have a table there, and would love some staffing help. We are usually near the library, on the same side of Mass Ave as the library. Email us if you can put in an hour or two on the info table. Stop by the table and say hello in any case.

Pervious experience is great but not essential to staff the table – in public service, help desk, retail, book stores, libraries, teaching, sales, or other jobs dealing with the public and explaining things. The most important thing is that you care about pedestrian access in Arlington and are willing to listen to concerns and answer questions about it. We provide maps of bus service and fun places to walk, safety tips, other pedestrian, transit and land use resources, and sympathetic ears about pedestrian concerns. We encourage people to advocate for safe walking in their neighborhoods, and we give them the information they need to do that. Typically, we talk with several hundred people in the course of a day, and pass out hundreds of maps and fliers. We will also be signing up participants for our November 2nd historical walk.

If you can volunteer for an hour or two, fabulous. We especially need people from about noon to 2pm. Training in how to staff an information table is provided by an experienced Head Librarian. Even if you can not volunteer, please stop by and say hi. See you at Town Day!
